Thoughts?

I took this picture a while ago and i was just wondering what you guys thought of it. Do you think it would look better not in color? I'd appritiate any critique you have.

I think it would look better if you shot it with a proper macro lens. Honestly, you won't be able to pull off this sort of shot well without one, because the wrong parts of the photo will be in focus. Notice how it starts to come into focus the further away you get from the point on the apple that's closest to the camera? That's because a normal lens can't focus on objects that close.

I think I would back up and get it in focus then crop out what did not belong.

To my mind, you used a too wide open aperture for this one which gave you only just millimetres of DOF, while it would have been better for the picture to have at least all those parts of the apple in focus that point right at us. Maybe going for a smaller aperture might also have helped the overexposure on the window-lit side.
