I took some pictures from Adox's Color Implosion film. Got it from the lab and tried to scan it. I talked to someone on Flickr and they gave me some help, but the negatives still looked bad. The site says "Make sure to scan raw without auto correction and tell your minilab-man to filter only the mask but not the images." I understand not using auto correction, but filter out only the mask? How can I do this on my scanner. I have an Epson v550.

My guess is to tell the software you're scanning color negs so it will automatically filter out the orange mask common with film negatives.

Negatives look bad or scan looks bad? From what I know that film is supposed to look like you are scanning a old faded color neg from the 70's, so it is supposed to "look bad".

If you are using Epson scan software just scan the negative as color print film and do not use the Auto color correct setting.

The "mask" has to do with printing not scanning.
