I'm just starting up my webpage and I'm afraid I might have set my image files to too high a quality. 7x10 pictures at 72 dpi average about 350k. Do you think this is too much? Especially for posting on forums?

Yes, that's pretty large for forums and webpages in general. I would say stay under 100kb and under 50kb if you want to be nice to 56k users. You can do so buy either increasing the jpeg compression or reduce the filesize. A combination of both is best to get the sweet spot compromise.
