WTB: Nikon 18-70 AF-S or 18-55 (VR or Non VR) AF-S

I'm sure you know this, but...

I'd check Craigslist. If you're relatively close to the Twin Cities, I would think the 18-70mm would come up fairly often.

In Seattle, I feel like I see one every week! They seem to sell for around $150 to $200, used.

PS - I have the 18-70 and like it very much.

Thanks for the info, I've been checking there regularly (part of my daily routine).

Good to hear some feedback on the 18-70, makes me more confident in looking that direction.

If you're looking for compact, the 18-55VR, but the 18-70 has focus scales, real AF-S, gasket, and a wee bit more range. As far as sharpness, i think they're about equal.

Yes, I will say that from my limited experience, the 18-70 is fairly weighty, and not super compact.

But, I think that's mostly because the build quality is actually not bad... and that extra zoom range is nice to have.

Not sure how it compares optically with the 18-55... again, I have very limited experience.

The 18-70 is not heavy.. and IMO the build quality kind of sucks, every time I use it I feel like it's going to fall apart.

But it is sharp..
