That would be pretty good to list everything in mm. But then people would get confused and have to learn a lot of stuff unfortunately. I don't like the "x zoom thingy" but it sure draws attention when it has a high number.

It should all be standardised in the interest of supplying the consumer with clear, concise, easily comparable information!

Then it would be harder for companies to trick mis-informed people into buying cameras. That would just be no fun!

"People would get confused".......... bah.. If every manufacturer did this, it would become a standard, and people would ask and learn.

There are two types of camera buyers.

a) get informed first, then buy

b) buy first based on marginal or misleading information, then learn what your camera can do

the "whatever-times-zoom" information is made for people from category b) ... and so are megapixels as well. Camera manufacturers should start giving actual resolution information and not MP.
