The only time I'd ever seen a Cheetah running was on TV, so I was pretty much unprepared for what a live version could do. Had the opportunity to watch a training demonstration yesterday, where they attach a little toy of feathers (bottom right side) to a line that is strung through the compound, around two wheels. An electric motor drives the apparatus. Despite giving a countdown prior to flipping the switch, all I could do was swing the camera in the general direction and hope I got something. They go from dead still to speeds approaching 60 mph almost instantaneously. The focus could have better, but given the circumstances, I was pretty happy with what I got.

Afterwards they are allowed to keep the toy as their reward - yeah right. As if they could retrieve it if they wanted.

Sweet, that must have been some sight to see!

I thought they were just making a big deal of telling everyone to get ready. :02.47-tranquillity: I think the only reason I got the first one, is all those years of bird hunting. Muscle memory took over, because I had no idea what I was even pointing the camera at!

Pictures seemed to have taken off with him...they seem to be missing on this end.

Yes, since early this AM, no photos, just large boxes with an X in them and a warning that the images are not available.

Strange I had trouble earlier but thought they were working now?

@Derrel and @b_twill Please refresh the page and check again. I deleted the link and redid it. Hope it works this time.

They're back!
Beautiful cheetah! Would love to see that in person!

Great shots.

I bet even after hearing your experience I'd still be a little unprepared for the acceleration they can achieve.

Nice capture. They are even more impressive and harder to capture in a real situation.

Wow, that is too cool.

@WesternGuy I can only imagine how they would be in the wild. This particular one was born in captivity. Having never known living on her own.

@jcdeboever Thank you. I was really excited when I saw the first image.
