Is it just me or is this over-exposed?

Composition wise... I think this might also look good if he were on the left side of the frame... Just a thought.

May be intentional or an oversight, but the depth of field is too shallow in my opinion. Looks like his hand/guitar are in focus but he's definitely not.

Also, the outfit/guitar blend into the background too much... I see jeans and a head, both out of focus. At first I thought it may be motion blur, and it may be - but the guitar is pretty stable if that's the case.

He also appears to have no eyes, which really makes this a lifeless photograph.

It looks like it was taken with a Sam's Club Disposable without a flash.
Dingy, grainy, underexposed, boring.
I would definitely pass this one up on the CD rack. It looks to me like his music would be depressing.

Stop shooting on f/13, theres really no need for it is there? You'd get much better photos with a wider aperture.

I don't like the editing. It lacks contrast and the vintage-looking colors don't fit the musician theme (imo). He looks more like a rock music type than folk singer.. need to darken up the edit, give it some grit. Also why did you cut the corners? I don't usually like overdone vignettes but that's how I lazily chose to cover those areas - even though clone stamp would have been just as easy.

++1, Nice re-edit by the way.:thumbup:

Thanks for the pointers everyone.

He looks as high as a kite, and dosen't have a clue why he is standing there.... Either that, or it looks like he is watching someone kill his puppy.

I might be missing something...but did it say somewhere this guy is a folk singer? ... I'm just saying...anymore can anyone tell the difference between a rock singer and folk singer? I've seen folk singers who look grunge...hippy...and like Staind...so I don't see why putting him a catergory helps the picture...what if he is a folk singer?

I liked the series by the tracks better, but I say, get him out of the grass, onto a bench or something, have him PLAY his guitar, make it look like it belongs with him, not just a prop...

Don't need to say it... its pretty obvious.

I'd bet a pay check he's been playing the local bar scene 3, 4, 5 nights a week for the past 5 years or so. He plays a ton of country and modern and classic rock covers, and mixes in a few a few songs he has written himself.

He's got a facebook page with about 1,000 friends, most of his wall is littered with 2:30 am posts about "you rocked tonight, thanks for letting me buy you a beer".... from his man crushes and "sorry we didn't get to spend much time to talk at the show (I was passed out in the bathroom)" from his lady crushes.

He's probably sang the National Anthem at a High School basketball game or two and has made an appearance on the local radio station for an interview. He's gotten his confidence up enough that he's finally ready to record his songs so that he can sell them at his shows. He's a little strapped for cash so a professional photoshoot for album art is out of the question.
