18-105VR or 18-135 nikon lens?

I currently have the 18-135 and am happy with it except I am not real steady and not able to use a tripod. So my question is which is a better clearer lens. I really need the help of the VR, if the lens is of comperable quality and and clarity I will switch. Please let me know which you'd prefer and why. Thank you.

the 18-135 is sharper, but they're both pretty lousy. I'd take a look at the 16-85VR instead.

don't know your situation - I really love the 18-200VR lens, could be a good long term investmant, a good all round piece of glass - maybe a permanent fixture.
