Hey guys and gals,

It's been a bit since I have posted anything for cc but here are two that I would like to see what y'all think. Taken at my office. Umbrella with sb600 camera right about 6.5 ft high 45 degrees down toward subjet and foamcore as reflector for fill lit. Thanks in advance.

I like #1, but the tilted background is sort of distracting.

#2 I'm not a fan, the shadow on the wall camera left is too distracting to me. Along with the "Smile" sign.

Dentist office? :P

Thanks for the advice. I noticed the shadow but not the smile. And yeah it's an orthodontist.

#1 . Tilted background doesn't bother me....it supports the non-smiling/pensive look in her face. I like the crop, but maybe take out the vertical white sliver on the far left edge.

The lighting looks good, except the big shadow on the wall in #2.

Why would you make a portrait of someone that utilizes half or less of the image frame? Help me understand the intent.

In what way, if any, does the long hallway in each of these help direct, rather than detract, a viewers attention to/from the intended subject?

KhM, Thanks for the comment about the light. As for the composition, I was trying for the rule of thirds. I (imo) didn't think that the hallway would be distracting because it was/is darker than the subject. I now know that I was wrong and I will defiantly take y'all cc to the camera. As for the shadow, that is photography error. If I would have stepped 8-10 inched to the left I could have (hopefully) avoided that shadow. This is not a post to defend myself but rather to explain what I saw while taking the shots. I hope that this does not discourage others from posting, because that is what I am here for. I like to learn. Thank again.

lighting looks good. I think it will be better if you put the light against the left wall instead.
