I can see why that would be tough! I've worked with two different videographers that are color blind as well.

Many that don't like on camera flash, have never bothered to learn how to use on camera flash.

When you are inside, set the white balance for the kind of lights there are.

Christmas tree lights are usually incandescent(tungsten). It used to be you could assume a lamp had a tungsten light in it, but like others I have changed all of mine to flourescents (CFL).

The first consideration in photography is the light. Light is what a photograph is made from. No light. No photograph.

Wow makes total sense. I plan on getting a hotshoe flash soon. I guess with everything i have read is that because the on camera flash is always direct is that it just white washe images. I dont, obviously i havent read enough about on camera. Anyways, i will start doing that, setting my white balance to the lights i am shooting. The reason i had set it to cloudy is when i was reading a part of Understanding exposure he says to try that. But i can see what that wouldnt work at all for shooting indoors or outdoors with cfl or tungsten. Is it considering a bad option to just keep it on AWB?

It depends on the camera.

Most entry-level DSLR's don't do AWB very well.

Understanding White Balance

The best way to do white balance, particularly if you shoot Raw files, is to use a good gray card.
