Just gettting back into shooting again and was wondering if the 2X Converters are worth buing for long shots or a waste of money? I had one and used one when shooting film a long time ago. Current camera T2I Cannon

What lens were you planning on using it on?

A 2x teleconverter will also reduce the effective lens aperture by 2 stops. If you use the 2x with a f/4 lens, the effective aperture would be f/8.

It all depends on what lens you use, i only use mine on long prime lenses
300F2.8L and Kenko 2X

The lens would be a Canon F2.8L II IS if I get anything for my next lens. the I want a good one for indoor/model shoots

Which f2.8 IS L M2 lens? The 70-200mm or the 300mm or the 400mm? ;)

I'll assume the 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2 though honestly on any one of those listed the 2*TC will perform very well (both the M2 and the newer M3 teleconverters). On the 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2 you get a 140-400mm f5.6 IS L lens which has image quality on par with the 100-400mm. Certainly there are better long options out there if you need it (eg 400m f5.6) but for the cost the 2*TC performs well on the 70-200mm and delivers a very usable image quality .
