2014 Georgia Renaissance Festival Series

Can someone teach me how to focus track a bird flying head on? I have a few shots with a raptor flying straight at me, but I couldn't maintain focus. I tried the AF-C 3D and selected my point of focus but it then started to track just random things. I would have had some killer shots, but the auto focus point selection was very disappointing.
Bright sun, plenty of light, low contrast against the sky: Use manual focus with a relatively deep depth of field. Focus where you "Think" the bird will be and let the depth of field handle the rest. I do that shooting air shows. I focus on the runway and if the airplane is anywhere near it I know it will be in focus.

Coincidentally I went to the Tennessee Renaissance Festival on Saturday. They are a lot of fun and it's one of the few times during the year that I actually photograph people ;)

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind
