I tried a new approach on this old shot, using the pixel shift processing in Rawtherapee.

It's gonna be right over my brother's place in Texas, so I'll be sitting in his back yard that day. But thanks for the offer.

And for ANYONE who is planning on watching, I'd suggest you get the book Totality by Fred Espenak. He does a very good job explaining eclipses in plain english.

It was still fairly new to me at the time, and I had tried it on the Moon with mixed results, so I did about half my eclipse shots with PS. It was a bit of a disaster, but partly because I relied on LR to process the PS images- a feature that LR had just recently implemented for Pentax PS. However, the sort of awful Silkypix that comes with the cameras would have done a better job so it was frustrating and I just extracted single frames with Rawtherapee. Later I learned how to use RT to process DNG PS images but I sort of forgot about these eclipse shots- til now.

Initial attempts at processing PS images in LR were pretty bad, but later revisions have fixed most of the color problems. Still I find that using Pentax Utility 5 to process and save as a TIFF, produces a better image. U5 replaced Silkypix as the supplied converter. It's somewhat of a PITA to use but it produces a better image IMO.

Wow, I never noticed that they migrated away from Silkypix, haha. Rawtherapee outputs TIFF as well.

I actually have DCU- somehow thought it was still basically Silkypix, lol. Still a tedious affair really.
