2023 Canon Production Problems

Production problems in the industry have been ongoing since at least as far back as 2020, but this is the first mention I have seen lately. Ordinary Filmmaker raised the issue in his post:

Side effect of COVID lockdowns that causes bottlenecks. They just suddenly go up and logistics/purchasing departments start figuring out workarounds these govt-imposed lockdowns.

R8 is reported to have a monthly production run of 11,000.

Not to mention we aren't in the December quarter. So why risk overstock? So they'd be induce to put it up on a discount. ;-)

I love it that YouTubers who probably never worked in supply chain would start being armchair supply chain experts.

So let us compare it to how digital cameras and smartphones did last year.

CIPA members used to push nearly 121.5 million digital cameras in 2010.

After 13 years it dropped to a little over 8 million.

All thanks to iPhones and Android..

So we are going back to basics with photo agencies, other orgs like them, working photographers and enthusiasts making the bulk of purchases.

Consumers, who are odds on favorite to buy a R8 are largely not buying ILCs anymore.
