24-70 2.8 or 70 - 200 2.8 in NYC

Hi I'm planning a trip this weekend to support a family member that will
running the NY Marathon, as well as some tourist stuff.

My question should I take my 24-70 or my 70 -200 or Both???
In the city, which one do you think would benefit me more?

Hum...thats a tough one, I could see using both my self but I would hate switching them out...especially the 70-200mm 2.8. The last event I shot, I mounted my 17-55mm 2.8 on my D300 and my 70-200mm 2.8 on my D7100. I would switch out using my ThinkTank bag shoulder bag. This made it very tolerable.

Well, since you gave the option of bringing "both," then I'd say bring both. If you had to choose one, I'd be inclined to take the 24-70mm because I remember, from my trip there, that things were quite cramped and they had lots of skyscrapers, so wider might do you more good.

The OP neglected to indicate what camera he had...eg, crop/full frame. For crop, 24-70, no doubt about it. Full frame...both.

I am going to shoot marathon and taking (the equivalent of) both.
Using two bodies with one on each.
Changing lenses in crowds is difficult, unless you have 3 or 4 hands.

Are you seriously asking which lens to take when there is no reason not to take them both? How's this then: simplify your life, leave it all at home and snap away with your smart phone.



PS: my D700 never leaves the house without the 28-70/2.8, the 70-200/2.8 and a SB600. There might be other stuff added but that is the minimum accoutrement for the camera.

I guess it will be both. I was trying to see if one was prefered, as I didn't really want to take allot with me. I guess to really make the best out of it both will have to be it.

Sorry it will be a D600 for those that asked.
