24 Inch Apple Cinema Display

I have the opportunity to pick up and LCD 24 inch display tonight for cheap. I have never used one but since I do all my editing on a macbook pro 13 I figured it would be nice to have a larger screen to view stuff on while editing. I have been told that the 24 LCD displays can be a little on the dim side at times. I have also been told that there is a bulb upgrade that you can do to them.

Is any of the stuff I have heard true? Has anybody done the bulb upgrade?
