I kept following this butterfly about but it did not stay still long & when I tried to get closer off it would go again. It rarely opened up when landed & that is what I wanted to show the colour. Here are the only two I considered acceptable.

This is a new BF to me.

I like the first one the best! So pretty!

Mmm nice shots but looks like there a bit over sharpened Hence the white lines and lots of solid white dots.

Closest i found of butterflys that i took, that looked like that one you shot.

Not the best i have

Love the shots. Trying to photograph something that thinks not only a human, but a large eyeball is following them is difficult. I sometimes find myself running around after flying critters too without much luck.

I've always wanted to go to a butterfly sanctuary. Maybe someday!
The sun hitting his wings really makes that blue pop!

Wow - those monarchs are amazing!! You are so lucky to get them in their migrating clusters like that. So cool!!

We used to see these blue-black beauties in Georgia. I used to try to photography them, too, but unlike so many other butterflies, they were very camera shy. Most butterflies couldn't care less if you walk up to them, especially if they are hanging onto one's butterfly bush, feasting. But I never got a good image of these black ones - a pleasure to see them again! Thanks for sharing these. :sun:
