A quick introduction , I Used to do a lot of Film Photography in the 1980's, some small local swimsuit sales photoshoots in Miami and Ft Lauderdale.
Got Married, had a family and stopped shooting. then when I got into classic and race cars I got a DSLR (Canon EOS T4i) Had some fun with it at car shows and racing events.
Recently I started to get the photo bug again and My wife got me a Canon R8, I wanted to mess with Full Frame, Mirrorless and Video Capabilities.
But my Grand Daughter Started doing Travel Club Volleyball. And I started taking action pictures as well as video of the games.

I found out real fast that the Lens I was using was not up to par to do indoor sports shooting. The stock Canon RF 24-50mm F4.5-6.3 lens aperture was not large enough to catch
the fast action, I needed a 1/1000 shutter speed, even with my ISO set above 5000 I can't get good shots. I then Borrowed a friends Nikon Z9, with a Nikkor 70-200mm 1:2.8 VR
and a whole new world opened up. the shots were clear bright and well 48MP helps a lot too. My problem is Retirement, less income and there is no way I will be able to swing
a new Canon RF Lens with a 1.8 - 2.0 Aperture (Found several $2000 and up) Even with a EF adapter the lenses are still insane. and I feel I am loosing a ton of advantage using a cropped frame lens on a full frame sensor. on top of that the incredibly fast Auto Focus from the R8.

Thats my story.

Welcome aboard.
Where, in VA are you? I recently retired and switch between MD (Baltimore/DC Areas) and Southern ME (retirement location).

Take a look at the used market - Adorama, B&H and KEH.

Happy to have another patient join the clinic. Fact is, you're either in recovery or denial with
photography dependencies...
In early 2025, it pays to look hard at what some consider "trailing edge" gear. Obsessives fret about dying in their sleep not owning the newest. Low shutter trip bodies 2-5 yrs old are often only incrementally--not dramatically--behind the new stuff. Point is, acquaint yourself with potential bargains thru some research. Best way to get good stuff on a budget.
