the advantage also is that when you do get the longer lens - you can often add the TC to that lens to get even longer (whilst a 500mm prime is achivable for most with hard saving a 1000mm prime is way way out - and very heavy too!)

I showed this shot as an example in another thread and thought it would help here as well. I appologize if I'm intruding on your thoughts here, I just thought I would post results for you to see for yourself.

That's obvious but for more than 20 times the cost of a 300mm f/4 vs slapping a $100 teleconverter on my existing 200mm f/2.8 it is something I am very very much to sacrifice. And that is exactly the key here. It's just another option. Weigh up the costs and benefits.

Thanks Garbz. Actually a good TC on good glass can be very productive providing outstanding images. I have the Canon 1.4 TC that should work well on the new glass. That's how I will be able to keep from buying a 600mm someday.
