I have film that is coming out with pictures but the film isn't see through, so we can't make prints out of the negatives. I am guessing it has something to do with the amount of time in the developer and/or the fixer in the process. Any ideas how to avoid this issue in the future and is there any way to salvage the film? Enough to get a couple prints at least??

Try re-fixing it straight away in fresh fixer if it looks like unexposed film but with an image on it (you can re=fix in the light and watch what happens. Re-wash after re-fixing. You can also test the fixer you had used by fixing a piece of unexposed film, like the film end sticking out of a cassette, to see if it clears in the fixer. Fix for twice (conventional cubic grain film) or thrice (t-grain film) the time it takes for the film to turn clear (do the test in the light).
