5 Year Birthday Session ~ CC Please!!

Thanks for all the feedback.

I totally agree I need a composite lesson! Again, if anyone has done an online composite tutorial or have any recommendations I would love that!

I re-edited all of them and fixed the odd angles! Thanks for that feedback! Sometimes I try to get creative and it comes out looking odd like that.

I really do appreciate all the feedback! It really helps me!

So you haven't seen any tutorials on composition? Still, you learned to tilt your camera from somewhere. I haven't seen any on line, but learned the old-fashioned way; from books. I'm sure there is some kind of tutorial out there from which you can learn.

BTW: If you are "close" to this model, perhaps you can help select her outfit, find a better background, and do this again, now that our fellow posters have been kind enough to give you some pointers.

I'm sure I've seen tutorials online somewhere. I'm sure I can also just google it. I was just asking for recommendations on a few really GOOD ones if anyone on here knows of any.

Also, yes, I'm very close to this little girl. She is my best friends daughter and I take her to school everyday with my son. With that, I would NEVER be so rude as to even 'suggest' to her mother to change her clothes. Ever, not going to happen. All that matters to me is that her parents like her clothing not what anyone else likes. Also, I like the background & I've fixed my odd angles so I don't think it's necessary to re-do these pictures.

I think she looks just fine with normal processing for color and tone.

So it was simply your "style" of over-processing that made the black hair ribbon take attention away from the child's face. Since you like your photographs, then that's all that matters.

I guess you can save yourself the time and effort of reading anything on composition, color, photo editing, photography in general, and business practices since you already are very comfortable with your product.

I'm not trying to start something over the Internet with someone I don't even know. This is one of the reasons I hesitate to post on here. I just wanted some feedback and I received some nice constructive criticism from asking yesterday which I've already changed in pp.

I've never said, not once, that I'm comfortable with my product and didn't want cc on the images. I'm totally lost on how you got that from my words. All I said was that I would never ask her mother to change her clothing & that all that matters to me is they (her parents) like her clothes & bow not what others think about her clothes & bow. Obviously, that's how they wanted to dress her. That doesn't mean I don't care about getting CC on the images themselves. Maybe I wasn't clear enough, didn't know anyone would take my words that way.

I think it was because your reaction was a little ... elevated. For most of us, the notion of asking someone to change their kids' clothes for portraits isn't rude... it's our responsibility as photographers. We are usually expected to produce a certain level of results, and what someone wears for a shoot affects that. I once read a book that pretty much dedicated an entire chapter to this topic.

So people are trying to help, and you sorta reared up on them and suggested that what they were telling you would have been rude, which kinda calls that person who suggested it rude, etc.

*shrug*

ymmv.

Hi reyna. I think these photos are nice, but no real 'wow' factor. The issue with #1 is that she is very pale, has blonde hair, and is wearing a grey shirt. The angle you shot this at really does put all the attention on the bow, which is the boldest thing in the photo. (similar to if something was very bright and drawing your eye). I think it looks a lot better with manaheim's edit (more contrast). All the photos have sort of a washed out appearance to them and the wb is cool in a lot of them.

my favorite is #3. I think your angle is great and the bushes in the background serve as a nice leading line. The things I do not like in #3 are the cool wb. the leaves in the foreground (I find distracting) and the white (fence?) in the background. I would clone that part out. The green is very neon-ey and I don't really like that, I would probably play around with the colors in lr to see if you could deepen it some.

As for the other images, I am not one who likes really posed shots. I would try to get some of her just being her...being a kid ya know ;)
