When i first saw my kids playing this game i thought 'pffft.. stupid'

Cult of Android MobileFlappy Bird Creator Is Raking In $50K Per Day From Ads | Cult of Android

Now i want to crawl under my desk and cry...

As an iOS/Android software developer i can tell you that it probably took less then a week to create that stupid game.. and its pulling in $50k A DAY!!!

A LOT of my Facebook friends have very recently been posting about Flappy Bird...apparently it's like...the new Angry Birds---in other words, a new world-wide smash hit, overnight.

Here is what you need to make 'Flappy Birds'..

1) A book on Objective C.
2) Download the Cocos2d game framework
About | Obj-C based 2D engine for iOS, OSX and Android
3) Find a good tutorial on the BOX2D physics engine (included in Cocos2d)
How To Build a Monkey Jump Game Using Cocos2d 2.X, PhysicsEditor & TexturePacker - Part 1 | Ray Wenderlich
4) Create low quality 8-bit looking graphics.
5) Make a simple game with no levels (just with random pipes).. and make it frustratingly hard to play.
6) Add iAds into the game

You forgot the most important step....a 5th grader. I can supply a 5th grader if you do the computer work. We're not greedy, 50/50 split on all funds

Jeebus, 50k a day? Hell, I'd be OK with 5k every day. More than OK with 5k a day. That's still $1,850,000 a year, which happens to be a hell of a lot more than I make at the moment. The question becomes, when you make $50k a day, what the hell do you spend it on? There's only so much camera gear I would even WANT, and I don't need more than one Bugatti... And a Pagani... And a house... And a few more houses... OK fine I'd blow it all. But you get the idea.

Back in 2011... another developer named Andreas Illiger had a hit 'one-man-developed' game called 'Tiny Wings' (awesome game.. WAY more complex then Flappy Brid). He sold an estimated 6.5 million copies in the Apple App store.

$6,500,000 * $0.99c = $6,435,000 - 30% (Apples cut) = $4,504,500

In a few interviews he (Andreas Illiger) talks about how crazy his life got after Tiny Wings became a hit. In the end.. he just ignored it all. He still lives in his small flat, still doesn't have a car... and still writes games.

Hopefully the Flappy Bird guy (Dong Nguyen) is as smart... Even if its more entertaining if he blows it all on cars, women and drugs and ends up with nothing.

It's gone, apparently. Wow... People are dicks. The guy had an idea for a game and capitalized on it. Why hate him for that? Farmville or Candy Crush on the other hand...

Flappy bird gained popularity overnight due to the difficulty of the game. For a simplistic game, it was incredibly difficult to make any progress. It became one of those games people download just to hate on, and thats why the creator is pulling the game. He has recieved an incredible amount of hatemail and even death threats from people who are agitated at the game. How anyone could get so angry at a mobile phone game, to wish the death of the creator, is beyond me. All the games creator wanted was to make games in peace that people could enjoy. But yes, he is getting paid a ridiculous amount of money for what he does.
