Unlike the scales on my other 645 Pro Mamiya lenses, the 55 scale just seems really wonky, for lack of a better term, and I'm wondering if anyone else finds this to be the case.

Aside from the usual "optimism" about DOF on the lens scale (typically based on a rather small degree of enlargement), the 55's, in comparison with an online calculator (which uses a more conservative d/1500 for CoC), sometimes is in the ballpark and sometimes isn't, both by amount and forward or back. By the 30-foot mark it's just impossible to tell anything. I discovered this both in testing and in a recent attempt to photograph a gazebo from about 12 feet with distant hills in the background. Setting the lemniscate across from f/8 to favor the foreground and then shooting at f/16, to ensure background sharpness, the background was very soft anyway. I repeated the shot later, focusing on infinity. The everything was nice and sharp.
