You have to explain to me the snail toss?? Not sure what that is, but it sounds (looks) like a trick to get water feeding birds to open their bills ??

You would understand better if you'd ever seen one trying to eat a snail. What they do is grab it with the end of their beak but they need for it to be closer to their tongues so they can swallow it so they toss it in the air and catch it further back in their beaks. Kind of like how we toss a piece of pop-corn in the air and catch it in our mouths.
