Did you use a flash? Next time you could spot meter the sky, set your exposure for the brightest spot, then use off camera flash to light the subject. This way the whole picture is exposed correctly.
If it was possible to step back and zoom a bit to throw the background more out of focus with less room above her head, it might have been better. Also, to me, the pose looks odd.
The wide-angle distortion in the second doesn't quite help. Looks a bit too documentary to me, rather than a portrait-type of shot. The bright highlights could be toned down a bit using a new layer and the curves tool.
