A few randoms...

These were not originally in black and white and I'm wondering if I made the right choice? The people who I shot these for loved them, but technically speaking, I want to do things the right way. The lighting was pretty harsh that day so some of the pictures either had to be black and white or just not turn out at all...especially the first two. SO here goes!

I just used Lightroom's conversion and upped the contrast and black a bit in each of them. C+C welcome!

The 4th picture is adorable.

I'm not expert, but the background is very blown in 1 and 2 which. Maybe a tighter crop would help?
The facial expression in the first one is great, but the blown background is going straight into the top of her head. What about a crop something like this?

Thanks for your tips! Yes the background was a pain...we were under a gazebo, and the background was the outside, which was very very bright sun and yes, a lot of the photos from that day had a blown out background. I *think* I may have used an external flash with a softbox around it for this one but I'm not sure. yes, please edit the photos at will...I love getting advice and seeing it in action. As I am on my laptop and am not home, my monitor isn't calibrated so I'm bound to not see things quite right! Thanks again for the tips!

Some nice shots, Tins. I agree, when your subject is in shade and there is a bright background, then you do needs some artificial light. But using light like this gives you a great deal of control.

Thanks muchly! Yes, artificial light is a must...obviously being so far away from home I didn't have that on me...except for my 430EXII flash and a softbox that attaches to it. I also brought my reflector set but didn't have enough arms lol I used the flash for some pictures, but as I think about it I don't think the first one is one of them.
