It's one reason I did not update the software on my Iphone 4, I still have the Google maps and for now am not missing any of the other features I might have gotten.

You know that google maps has now been released as a standalone app, and it has turn by turn directions.

So you can simultaneously update your phone and get google maps, and have an improved version of google maps.

This is why I think ultimately apple maps were a win. Because it forced google to give voice based turn by turn directions to the iPhone, whereas before Apple released apple maps, google held turn by turn out as android only.
