IBM released the 5150 the first PC. I was using Apple II+ in middle school at the time ( got a Fraklin clone of Apple II+ a year later). Bought first PC computer in 1990 and been PC guy since. I have actually never bought an Apple product.

By the time I was a senior in high school, calculators were becoming popular, but we could not use them on tests.

I got a calculator when I was a sophomore in high school. I think it was a Canon. I still have the slide rule, somewhere.

I was tutoring BASIC at the community college and helped set up the lab with TRS-80s. Prior to those we had terminals hooked up to the main frame.

Later I bought a Commodore C-64, then upgraded that to the C-128. I even ran a COBOL compiler on it. Moved to MS -DOS on a Radio Shack box

In my first year at college a dorm neighbor was in a slide rule club where the competition was to solve math questions with the rule. He kept his Pickett log-log rule in a holster secured to his leg with a leather cord, similar to the ones used by TV gunslingers.

1981......I was 17 (in Oct) and bought my first car. 71 VW Super Beetle. Sure wish I still had that old Bug. I do still have my 10 speed bike I got in 1974.

In 1981 I was living in Alaska and one weekend some friends and I flew up to Dawson City in the Yukon. (One of the friends owned a floatplane so we could land on the Yukon River at Dawson.)

We explored the historic old town, had a flutter at Diamond Tooth Gertie's, at the time the only functioning casino in Canada, visited an acquaintance who had a placer gold mine up the Klondike Valley. We panned some of his concentrate and all contracted cases of gold fever...Yikes.
