From my ignorant shallow perspective, the no shirt thing seems a little too intimate with a dog and it looks like he is about to kiss it..
gives me one of those odd "huh?" reactions and a feeling I don't want to be a part of what is going on here.

not knowing portraits id say you did a good job on it. (replace the dog with yourself maybe for a intimate romantic portrait?)

I wasn't really going for "romantic" but I was going for something intimate and affectionate. He is very sensitive to this little dog which I find endearing.

Ya I gotta go with bribrius on this one. The no shirt thing is just a little creepy. So next time get him to put a sweater on first.

Maybe get your husband to wear one that matches while your at it... lol

Personally, I don't see the shirtless thing as a big deal. But I suppose if you are one of those people who always equates nudity with sexual content than it would look unusual. Also, I always sort of feel like the one thing people seem to be polarized about in an image is what makes it interesting. If he had a short on, there would be nothing to discuss. So the shirtlessness creates a conversation, an inquiry, regardless of whether it is positive or negative in the end.
