From my ignorant shallow perspective, the no shirt thing seems a little too intimate with a dog and it looks like he is about to kiss it..
gives me one of those odd "huh?" reactions and a feeling I don't want to be a part of what is going on here.

not knowing portraits id say you did a good job on it. (replace the dog with yourself maybe for a intimate romantic portrait?)

I wasn't really going for "romantic" but I was going for something intimate and affectionate. He is very sensitive to this little dog which I find endearing.

Hey just the feeling it gave me. But some say that I have no understanding of art, and that is why I do wildlife photography. It is an excellent picture though and way above my skillset.
