Active Topics vs. New Posts

Is there a difference at all between clicking "Active Topics" and "New Posts?" There sure doesn't seem to be. Do we need both links if they're both giving the same search results?

It used to be that new posts went back farther than active topics, and was like 10 pages.... seems that lately it's just the paginated version of the active topics page.

I don't use 'active topics'...but it looks like it just returns the latest posts (how ever many pages or amount of time that it's set to).

New posts however, is more useful (for someone like me anyway). When I'm done looking through the forum, I click 'Mark Forum Read' (under forum actions). Then when I come back and click 'New posts', it gives me only the new posts since I marked the forum read.

When I check it first thing in the morning, there might be 10 pages of new posts. But if I check it every hour, I get a nice short(ish) list of the new posts, which makes it easy to quickly see what is going on.
