A theater student wanted some headshots. He is my first customer in my home studio.

I like the last two, I think he looks better without a smile or even a half grin.

Can you please explain your lighting setup for 4? I really like it! If you don't want to do it here, you can pm me. Either way!

ONE speedlite, no modifier.

4 is okay, but the lighting accentuated the sweat on his forehead. 6 is fun and quirky, but should be in portrait. Your best is 10, but it should be cropped quite a bit tighter...Just my .02

Honestly, in several of these, you needed a bit more DOF...just because you can shoot shallow, doesn't mean you should.

You've been around long enough to know that you don't need to shoot wide open on every shot...Honestly, this shoot confuses me a bit.

I think #6 and #7 could have benefited from some kind of hair light but I like as they as they are now as well lol.

#1 looks kind of orange maybe...

The only one that I would call a head shot is #6. The DOF is too shallow IMO....the tip of his nose looks to be OOF.

I got some that have deeper DOF. I asked him which he likes better, he seems to love the shallower DOF. He has options though because I provided both. He liked my self portrait on FB. Also, you can easily crop these 5D Mk II files if you want it tighter.

4 and 5 have an awesome background IMO. Pictures are very sharp. I think you did a good job in all of them.

Only thing I don't like so much is that in #7 the ears and neck are not in focus. I'm not sure if that was on purpose or not.

Other than that I tanning they turned out great.

I am totally certain that he did not shoot these wide open.

I was going to say the some about the DOF, I would have liked to see the clouds in a few.
