advice for burst mode

What exactly is wrong with the sensor in the 7D? You have the same one in your rebel.

Yeah, and the sensitivity really isn't good at all. I hate taking photos at 1600. But I guess you also have a more custom ISO range... I just think Canon. Gould have put a different sensor in it instead of having a $500 T2i and a $1500 7d.

I shot this series with the Nikon D300. I'm pretty sure I had the grip on it which increases the frame rate. I cannot remember if it was set to shoot jpeg either because it was taken in 2008.

I have shot a flock of geese landing in a pond and something else, but that's about it for laying on the shutter release. Not even with the D700 have I shot many bursts and if I did, the burst was fairly short lived and the buffer was nowhere close to being tapped. But, it does sound cool hearing those clicks.

Another strange guy who takes photo sequences, be careful they might start kidding you.
Does the grip always increase fps or is it only a d300 feature? in the end I looked at either the d5100 or the d7000 but I could not find evidence that the grip on these two cameras increase fps.

I see that you have only signed up this month so you wouldn't know. They have been doing that to me for years.

As long as you have batteries in the grip, have it switched on and set the burst mode to CH, then yes, every time for my two bodies.

If used correctly ISO 1600 is very good on later rebels and the 7d

Howso? I just find it to be too noisy for me. But also, I'm a perfectionest...

No bother. If its not good enough better start saving for a 5d mark II or III. 5 years ago the quality of the camera your saying is poor would have not have been possible on a crop. Now, there are better cameras but I have seen many good shots from older less able cameras. Of course there is always better and its not a bad thing to strive for perfection but where do you stop. An ounce of ability can beat a lb of technology sometimes (and that is not questioning your ability, I myself consider me to be at the dreggs of the bottle)
