Advice Needed

Hello all! I'm new to the forum and could use advice.

Over the years, photography has remained the one creative outlet I enjoy, and lately I've decided to pursue it more seriously.

I have a gallery on Facebook but have decided I want to display and sell my work, using a site that creates and ships prints for a commission. I have used a site called ImageKind and had two photos made into canvases, which came out great.

Here's my dilemma ... I take pictures spontaneously and never go out with the intention of doing so. Things catch my eye, the impulse strikes, and that's when I do my best work. Years ago, I used a point-and-shoot for this, but lately (I'm embarrassed to say) I use my cell phone (a Droid Razr). As I never considered doing anything professional, it didn't matter.

To be fair, the phone pics actually come out great, especially when touched up with mild editing. The two canvas prints I have were done on a point-and-shoot from 6 years ago, and are nearly flawless. Still, I'm worried that if I were to start seriously advertising my work and selling prints, that the quality may not be acceptable to some.

I do not want a DSLR camera - the ease of use and portability of a point-and-shoot or phone is how I prefer to work, as I take pictures on a whim and don't want to carry a bulky camera around. What are your thoughts on this? Are there non-DSLR models that produce professional quality, especially if editing can be done? Many of my shots look flawless on the computer, but I'm worried there will be distortion when enlarged into a print.

The top half were done on a cell phone, the bottom half with a point and shoot. The picture quality varies between shots, but the better ones will give you an idea of what the capabilities are.

Look into a mirrorless camera, like the Olympus EM-5, Fuji X series, or Sony NEX series.

Hi cs and welcome to the forum! For landscapes, the absolute best image quality you can put in your pocket comes from the $999 Sigma DP1 Merrill camera. You can enlarge photos from this camera to poster size. Sigma says it has a 46MP sensor, but in fact, it has three 14MP sensors, and takes pictures in the Red, Blue and Green channels simultaneously.

I really respect David over at soundimageplus, who is a professional landscape photographer.
