I normally shoot two different exposures and blend them in PS. This time I used one exposure and processed it twice, one for the details and one for the sky.

Thanks for that info. So is it bracketing? Was 1 shot 'too' bright for shadow detail or such?

Not technically "bracketed" because I only used one exposure. I should remove that text. When I sot this, some of the rocks were too "hot", so I processed one darker a bit and then blended the two "shots" in Photoshop.
