I'm getting ready to order a couple of bee's. While looking at the website, and seeing the different colors that they come in a thought passed through my head. Do you think that if you ordered one of the colored bee's (don't worry, i'm not) and shoot into a bounce umbrella, you would get a slight color tint from the body of the bee? And if you bought a white bee, as opposed to a black one, do you think you would get a "bit" more light from white as opposed to black? I know this is pretty trivial, I plan on ordering one white one black just for the sake of knowing which strobe is which, but the thought popped into my mind and thought it would make a neat DISCUSSION. not an alien bees suck, or a bashing thread, just a DISCUSSION.

I do not think the body color of Alien Bees will affect the coloration of the light, in any meaningful way. A white and a black set would be nice, just to be able to easily differentiate between units.

i have an orange bee, and don't see orange in my pictures. there's nothing wrong with colors :p

I have a green one (really wanted white, but I got it from a friend for $150 and it is an AB800 so that was a steal). I cant wait till I can get the MINI Lithium. I will finally get to use my large octa on location!

Those who don't like Alien Bee, will probably say that the inconsistent WB will be far more of an issue than any tint you might get from the color of the strobe body (and they may be right).

My B800s are Yellow and my B400s are black.

Those VB Minis look great...but keep in mind that if you use a large box outdoors, even the slightest wind could send the whole thing flying...so anchor that sucker down with anything you can.

I want to get a set of pink ones so I dont have to worry about anybody ever wanting to borrow them or steal them.

I will be that guy, we moved away from the bees because of the colour shift on the lights.
Don't get me wrong for most work they were fine, but for colour critical work had to use something else.

But the housing colour never made a difference.

But saying that, I went with white so that it would help them to stay cooler outdoors when in bright sunlight. Heat is any electronical device's enemy and even though it probably didn't make enough of a difference to matter, I still went with white.

Shooting a completely different system now.
