I dont see how you can do a good job focus stacking without a tripod. Its impossible. Having said that, what you have done is pretty decent.

Difficult, but not impossible - I've done it one or two times without too much trouble (its even harder with bugs!). Heck I've even seen one photographer who focus stacked ants as they were investigating something - a nightmare in having to edit and correct their antenna before stacking the shots (because they moved frame to frame).

I really like the second one, the large-sized B&W vertical composition, with the feathers on the left and the eggs on the lower right hand side of the frame. Nice.

We are talking minute distances of camera movement. Just breathing would throw the focusing off. Using a tripod you can get very accurate results focusing in tiny increments. Hand holding is a lot of hit and miss. Just my opinion.
