What's new

And some Big Wood

Very nice shots - I think you have done a good job on the out of focus background, otherwise it could have been quite the distraction - IMHO.

What is the species? I have been seeing one of these guys at one of my spots and haven't been able to ID. Nor have a gotten a shot a quarter as good as these ;)

I think this is a type of Flicker. :)

Thanks everyone, the Northern Flicker is the largest woodpecker I have seen. I really hope to get an in flight shot this year, they are just stunning with the wings extended !!!!

The only larger one is the Pileated and i think spotting one of those is rather rare in this area, but some day I hope to stumble across one.

If you have any large woodpecker shots feel free to add them to this thread

And just one more of that second one for identification purposes. That flying red V on the back of the neck really stands out

Nice set Bill

Beautiful markings on these Bill, nice details and once again, extremely well taken. If I ever get to the US I will be looking for Woodpeckers, I just love them.

All the best up there Bill.

Danny.
