Last night's sunset was incredible--likely one of the nicest sunsets I've shot in a very long time. I arrived in Machias last night just after 5, and had plans to shoot the sunset with some photographer friends. We headed out to Roque Bluffs just before seven, and we arrived to a low-tide, which is less than ideal there. There's plenty of beautiful rocks, but those are only useful at a high tide. We set up anyway, and the sunset started as a hazy dull wash, but after the sun disappeared below the horizon the whole sky lit up, and as it did I looked a bit down the beach and found these awesome wave lines in the sand. I've come to realize that photography is not about being knowledgable and proficient with your gear--sure, that's important, but being there and being ready when you're given an incredible scene is just as important.
