I like the composition, and the details are good for the most part, but again the lighting gets to me. I like the lit chest, but the face is lacking. One thing I have found with birds is how having even the tiniest glint of light in the eyes really makes all the difference, it takes those beady black orbs and gives them life. Obviously you can't set up every shot to have perfect lighting, but capturing the lit side of the bird should really be your goal, or at the very least have its eyes and side of the face well lit, beyond that some dynamic lighting can do great things.

A great photo compositionally, just needed some different lighting IMO.

Thanks tog. I noticed that immediately after seeing it on my Mac. I have to keep that in mind for next time.

Good shot, but as has been said needs help with the lighting. A fill flash would be the way to go. I use a 580EXII and a better beamer even in brighter daylight. It removes the facial shadows, gives highlights to the eyes, and allows me to use the optimum f/stop for the shot.
