I tried to go with a "grainy" feel. My post editing skills are limited

I think that added grain is often something that works better when you print as opposed to displaying online. Depending on the quality of the monitor that is being used to view it, it can look much worse than it should.
You also need to be careful regarding how/if/when you sharpen when you use some of these filters. If you were intent on the grain, a sepia tone might soften the effect some as well.

I do like the composition though. A very nice capture.

I like the grain and the contrast. And its an interesting subject. Just if you'd of lightened the umbrella more so it stood out more from the background

I added a second edit to the original post minus the grain, but added sepia

Strongly dislike the green but I absolutely love the framing! The way the tree(s) just wrap around is awesome amazing place for a photo

The green was just something I was playing around with, easily changable.

I think this is a wonderful, remarkable image - surely one for a life portfolio.

There are two things that bother me a lot - the slight off-centeredness where a central position would be good and the overbrightness.
Because a lot of the brightness is in the space above their heads, and that space doesn't contribute anything and should not pull the eye.

So I cropped it to 4x5, reduced the brightness and burnt in a bit and gave a strong sepia tone and I think those changes work for this image.

I was thinking about the position of the girls. In the RAW image, they are center screen, I intentionally moved them to the side, but probably not enough. I do like the closer crop and center.

O.K., you ol' Tiger, I relent. The grainy look is better.

Now, FYI; the reason I went ga-ga over this photo is because it is evocative of the work of Giovanni Battista Piranesi, an Eighteenth Century artist. The over-arching branches in your photo absolutely are an integral part of the sublime feel, and need to be included. So it was your original post that I fell in love with, not the green one, not the cropped one, and not the sharp one.

After all my retrys and edits, I too still like my original BW grainy version of this image better than any other. The only thing I would fix on the original is the light area above the umbrella. I am limited on my PP skills, so when I try to burn the area some, it doesn't come out good.
