Here is another bull elk photo I took a few weeks ago while in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Cherokee, NC. He stays in proximity to his harem.
Nice catch. We just got back from the Smokies a week ago. Apparently the NC population has reached a point where they're starting to migrate to other parts. Most recently two were spotted at Sugarlands just outside of Gatlinburg Smokies Elk continue Tennessee trek to Townsend; safety signs posted while I'm happy about the increase in population, i'm concerned that because they are on protected status they have little fear of humans, and a frustrated 700# animal high on testosterone with no fear to temper his mood is a danger. There's been an increase in attacks on vehicles. Beware of 700-pound elk on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They charge at cars, park warns
