I was thinking maybe making it b&w. Any thoughts??

I think you nailed the dof in this shot. I also like the metallic shine of the track. It might work in b/w but I really like the color. My .02...

It's a miss for me. These types of low-to-the ground, everyday railroad tie images often hinge on the effectiveness of the lines. In this image, I'm not seeing symmetry, convergence, divergence, or anything compelling that draws me. The DOF leaves us with a choppy and uneasy bokeh, which could be the lense you're using.

Perhaps a more compelling image would've been a shot very close to the rock at bottom-center of the frame. Not feeling this one, keep it up though.

banderson; unfortunately, only the immediate foreground is in focus, and there's not much there, if you catch my drift. Making a B&W image of this will not improve it. Don't abandon the idea, however. Go back to the rail yard and get some in-focus shots of the various forms, texture, light and shadow, and turn those into B&W.

The leading lines draw me to the out of focus background. Could have some potential if there was something of interest in the background.

I had a look at the larger version and the photo is out of focus.
