Any chance of price cuts in the next 3-4 months?

I am looking to buy a Canon 40D, but since I am in no rush, are there likely to be any substantial price reductions in the next few months? It would have to be at least a few hundred in order to make the wait worthwhile.

Are there any new products being announced at the January show that would result in a price reduction?

In my opinion, no. I think the 40D is new enough that the soonest it would be updated is August '08. A few lenses and the 5D are likely candidates for updates in January. However, my limited experience with camera gear is that even when updated, the now-outdated models still retain nearly 100% their value and just dribble out the door and are no longer stocked. See the thread on the Canon "6D" rumor for a little bit of elaboration on this.

40D is not likely to change price at all. One day, but not soon.
