I've been using Nations for the past year and never had a problem. Recently my daughter gave me a gift card to Mpix, so I didn't have a choice. My first order from them turned out pretty well. Other than being significantly more expensive they were of equal quality and speed of delivery. However I just ordered again, and less than satisfied with the results. The prints are extremely soft and the colors are off, the skin tones are orange.

At first I thought it might be the color profile as it's the same I use for Nations, with no issues, but then there wasn't a problem with the first order so that can't be the problem. The second issue is how soft the images are. I went back to the file, to make sure I uploaded a high resolution image, and the images I uploaded were tack sharp.

I've sent an email to them, so guess I'll see.

I’ve been using mpix for years and have been pretty satisfied with them. I can only think of 3 issues I’ve ever had with them, none of which were dealbreakers. I’d rather not have to reorder prints, but they are very accommodating and will send out new prints at no charge with expedited shipping. I have not had any issue with sharpness though.
  • If you want a lustre finish, the texture is an expensive coating, not a textured paper like most use. I stopped using this finish because it wasn’t worth the price for something sprayed on afterwords that doesn’t really add anything.
  • I used them for holiday cards a few times, and 2 years ago the photo collage had more cropped at the edges than they claimed would - like tops of heads cut off. They were very helpful in explaining how much additional room to leave around the edges and reprinted them at no charge.
  • Only once did I have any issues with colors. It was a family portrait with snow in the background with blown out highlights (intentional). I let them handle the color management instead of using their profile, and got back prints with the white balance and exposure adjusted for the snowy background. Again, they reprinted them at no charge.

I did have this added this time, now you have me wondering if that's causing the softness? I'm a fanatic on eyes being sharp, you can count the eyelashes, but the print is muddled.

The color issue I don't have a clue, why. The first order was fine.
