There's been a few times when i've seen the rain really crashing down this week but when i've taken a picture you just can't really see it... Anyone got good shots of rain?

Try using Manual Focus, rotate the Focus ring till you see rain is more in focus than other subjects, its very easy

And set a fast shutter speed.

It's not rain, but it's still falling water:

The right shutter speed helps. Slower speeds make the raindrops record as streaks, while faster speeds make rain look like, well, little specks. It's been maybe 10 years since I shot rain very often. Not sure if I have many photos of it readily accessible.

This was made in March of 2003, shot at 1/90 second at 200mm length on a Fuji S2 Pro 6 MP d-slr.

Here's another shot of rain during a real deluge, welling up and overflowing a rain gutter, shot at 1/250 second, under really dark, stormy conditions. What's odd is it looks B&W, but this was a gray day, and this is full color!

At 1/60th of a second, the raindrops will become nicely sized streaks. BUT... to make the raindrops show up, it really helps if they are back-lit and that will help them pop.

Ironically, this means you get the best "rain" effect when there's sun in the sky and not when it's completely overcast.

If you see a rainbow (which is only visible if the sun is at your back) then turn around... and shoot toward the sun to get raindrops.
