Apple Display Question

A photographer friend is selling her 27" Apple LED display with thunderbolt. Has anyone used this to connect a Canon 5D MK II to it. I was wondering if you could use the HDMI cable with an HMDI to Thunderbolt adapter and connect it to the thunderbolt port on the back of the display.

I have tried searching Google several different ways to find the information I am looking for. I took a trip to the Apple Store yesterday after work and two sales people thought it should be possible, but couldn't guarantee it would work. Next step is to make a trip in with my camera.

In case anyone was wondering, I have discovered that the display must be connected to a computer in order for any of the ports to work that are on the back of the display. Apparently, it has something to do with the necessary Intel chipset that needs to drive the display. Disappointed, but at least now I know.
