I was over at DPREVIEW.com checking out this lens and I have a question that I hope someone can answer. I thought lenses designed for APS-C camera's don't have a crop factor but it specifically mentions it on this line "Ultra-wideangle zoom (15-30mm equivalent on 1.5x DX / APS-C DSLRs)". So before I buy this lens I need to know if I'm wrong or is the reviewer wrong? 15 to 30 just won't do the trick so I hope the reviewer is wrong. It's hard to find a decent wide angle lens on a limited budget. I may have to go back to film if all else fails. Thanks for your input here.

Focal length isn't based upon the crop factor of the camera body. 30mm is 30mm be it on crop sensor - full frame or even medium format - what changes however is the angle of view that those different sized recording mediums give with the focal length.

The only difference that crop sensor specific lenses have is that they are smaller than their fullframe equivalents and also don't cast the outer areas of the image circle that fullframe specific lenses do; this is because those outer areas are never seen by the smaller sensor and thus there isn't any need for them in a lens dedicated for that sized sensor (which is why when they are fitted to a fullframe camera they give a strong vignette).

10-20mm will give you the same angle of view that you would see from a 16-32mm on a 35mm (fullframe) camera body. If you want to go wider the Sigma 8-16mm is the widest wide angle lens for crop sensor whilst not being a fisheye lens.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that I would lose the angle of view if I went with this lens. I think the 10-20 mm should give me just the amount of distorsion I'm looking for. Now I just have to sell my wife on this.

Hehe at first I read your reply as " I have to sell my wife"
