If the shot is important and I have time to re-do it, I check it before I move on to the next shot. The LCD is there for a reason. Not using the technology presented to you is not machismo... it's silly.

I assure you the first time a camera showed up with exposure meters on-board that there were whole societies of people balking at anyone who dared use them. Same goes for autofocus, on-board exposure computers, etc.

That said, if you're using it as a crutch because you don't know how exposure or your camera works or whatever... well, sure... you need to get better, but that's no reason to be ashamed or anything. Viewing the screen will help you check your results in the field and tune as you go.

I usually check one or two for a given lighting situation(like when I get to a bar with some friends), and I will check on occasionally throughout the night, but not many.My LCD is off by default. Plus it saves battery power.

I chimp with the Highlights (Blinkies) as my default display on the LCD.

All I want to know is what areas of the image have lost detail. Adjust and reshoot if necessary.

Based on your definition of what it is I have to say no. But I do look at what I have shot to see if it is close to a "correct" exposure. Usually the exposure is close bit the focus is off :blushing: and that I can't see on that little screen and get a surprise when I view it on the computer!

My name is Opher and im a recovering Chimper.

+1 being able to review the highlights and the histogram of a photograph is a fantastic thing to have right there at the instant.

I tend not to review sharpness that often since my 400D tends to make everything look soft when zoomed in on the LCD.

Depending on the situation, yes I do it. In fact I do it most of the time unless I am in a fast moving environment.

I came from a 35mm background so I only see the LCD as an advantage.

I mostly use cameras that don't have LCDs, lol. When I am using a digital body though, pretty much the only time I check the LCD is if I'm using off camera flash.

I don't really know why though, I just do the same thing I do with film and they always come out alright. I guess, even though I pretty much know that it's good, I sometimes check anyway just because I can. I guess I just get paranoid sometimes.

Not using your LCD for the sake of your manliness is just dumb. You paid more than 1000$ for a full machine.

I think you guys are also misunderstanding the term. Chimping is showing your excitement while looking to your lcd and showing it to everyone around, or just making exclamation sounds so others can hear you. It's not reviewing your images for adjustment purposes.

How do you know you got the right shot if you don't look? You just rely on your knowledge? Sometimes things fail and I'd rather spend 1 secs seeing If I got it right or not before I miss my opportunity on a potential great shot. We're not on film era anymore, things have evolved, and now that you have the technology to make the best out of your photography, you dismiss it, just so you look good next to your overpaid photographer neighbor?

Lol LCD what? Real cameras don't have LCD's

I've been known to review it on my LCD on stationary objects on my digital though, but anything moving fast like sports I don't do it I have no time to review images. Once in a while if it's a shot I've been trying to get forever I'll chimp but I don't habitually do it.

You might use the LCD if it wasn't broken a week after you

I think I spend more time looking at my photos while shooting then actually taking photos!
