Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Dear all,

I am a postgraduate Goldsmiths student and I was wondering whether somebody could recommend me a London-based photographer, without too big of a name, to photograph some of my works? It would be nice if not only these objects, but also the photos thereof have something artistic to them. So not the usual product or fashion photography with uninspired backgrounds. Sober and relevant, but with an original twist.

Sarah Van Marcke fits this profile quite well, but she is based in Belgium. Maybe you have some names or directories in mind that I could check?

Thank you in advance.

Best,
Wouter

Interestingly enough, Sarah doesn't even have any "product" photography in her "portfolio". Unless it was the clothes the poeople were wearing?

It was the closest I found. A photo like “(T)issues #01” shows potential. As I said before, I’m not after the usual product photography. Any names or directories Bitter Jeweler?

Out of curiosity, why did you put portfolio between quotation marks?

I put it in quotes because it didn't seem like a proper portfolio.

Your best bet is to Google London Photogs. Find some and start networking.

What is the scale of your work? I am curious why you picked that photographer to show as an example. The "tissues" example you point out is interesting, but it took me a while to figure out what more there was than boring trees. The difference was then too small for me to even care. I am curious how you are going to translate something like that to effectively show off your work to its best advantage, assuming you are doing jewelry, or small scale sculpture.

It’s a portfolio website, not her website. In case you’re talking about her work then of course you can have a personal opinion. However, some people do care about discovery. The scale of my work is similar to a human body.

Sorry to be frank, but referring to Google isn’t proper “help”. ;)

If your work is similar to the size of a human body, perhaps you will find a suitable portrait or landscape photographer, instead of looking for a product photographer.

So, have you searched for photographers in your area, using a search engine, which is the equivalent of our American "Yellow Pages", contacted any to see if they know someone who might be suited to your needs? It's basic networking. Of course it requires you to do the leg work. :sexywink:

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. I did have a look at some graduation websites, the Hyères International Photography Competition and the Brighton Photo Biennial before. I also sent out a dozen of targeted emails. I came across Annett Reimer, but I thought something else could come up through this forum since it has a lot of members.

Thank you for the links gsgary!

Thanks again, the AOP portfolio site seems very useful!
Also, before you contact your sister in law; please note that I won’t make a decision yet, I’m still browsing. But thank you so much for the effort!
